Matterport's Tags and Tours features revolutionize spatial storytelling within their Digital Twin technology, offering users the ability to add depth of context and guide visitors through immersive digital experiences. The implementation of Tags and Tours has not only addressed the "cold start" problem in exploring digital twins but has also opened up new avenues for creativity and collaboration, solidifying Matterport's position as a leader in spatial storytelling technology.
In an increasingly digital world, context and meaning become further divorced from their physical counterpart. We recognized that on a fundamental level, this would be a weakness of the Digital Twin medium. As a result, we expanded Matterport's Digital Twin technology by enabling users to add depth of context to their captured spaces. With the Tags and Tours features, Matterport aimed to empower users to tell compelling stories within their digital twins, offering visitors an engaging and informative exploration experience.
We conducted extensive user research to understand the pain points and needs of their diverse user base, particularly in industries such as real estate, hospitality, and retail. We discovered a common challenge among users: the difficulty in providing context and guiding visitors through digital twins effectively. Understanding this, Matterport identified the need for features that would allow users to annotate specific points within a space (Tags) and create curated paths for exploration (Tours).
Armed with insights from their research, Matterport's design team embarked on a collaborative ideation process. We brainstormed various concepts to address the identified user needs, considering factors such as usability, scalability, and compatibility with existing workflows. Through prototyping and user feedback sessions, we refined their ideas, ultimately settling on the Tags and Tours features as the most effective solutions to enhance storytelling within digital twins.
With a clear vision in mind, Matterport's development team set out to bring the Tags and Tours features to life. Leveraging the company's expertise in 3D imaging and virtual tour technology, we implemented robust systems for users to create, customize, and manage tags and tours within their digital twins. The user interface was designed to be intuitive yet powerful, allowing for seamless integration into existing workflows across various industries.
Upon the release of Tags and Tours, Matterport observed a significant increase in user engagement and satisfaction across their platform. Real estate agents found Tours invaluable for guiding potential buyers through properties remotely, while retail businesses used Tags to highlight key features and products within their stores. The ability to tell immersive stories within digital twins not only enhanced user experience but also opened up new opportunities for collaboration and creativity. As a result, Matterport solidified its position as a leader in digital twin technology, driving further innovation in the field of spatial storytelling.
